Jep, totta tuo aikidonkin suhteen.

I am glad you asked about the biomechanics of the style we teach Bruce,
I think if you take a look at this video (http://www.hapkiyoosool.com/video/New_Dojang.wmv" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), you can see that there are some similaries to Aikido but much closer to Daito-Ryu. It is GM Chang's own creation of Hapkido based on training and his experiences throughout the years. That is what makes the Martial "arts" so great. As we all know, like with any art, it is the expression of the artist. I think we all enjoy seeing other styles of Hapkido, it tells you allot about the creator of that certain style. I wonder what Aikido would be like today if Ueshiba Morihei had not had his "religious experience" that effected his way of teaching the Aiki arts he learned them. He did study more that one style. Took them and created his own "way". Takeda Sokaku taught several styles of Aiki arts as well from what I understand.
As far as "Going to the source". That is a great point and I have been asked this before and happy to explain. We are closer to Daito-Ryu than to Aikido as I said above. GM Chang does go to Japan to train with the Japanese masters. I guess you can call that going to the source. What is the real source of martial arts? (a completely different idea which could have it's own thread.) I see that Koreans do tend to be a bit more aggressive (or flashy) with martial arts than the Japanese. Let me know if you have notice this as well in Hapkido. This is based on my own experiences. GM Chang hates flashy technique. I am going to put another short video of GM Chang teaching on our website so you can hear him say it himself. I think it will help you understand our style better, maybe. I really want to understand each other and support each other.
Aikido's focus seems to be on NOT causing physical harm to the attacker. We focus on dislocation of the joints to stop the attacker from coming back for seconds. We also use TONS of pressure points and teach knockouts using pressure points in the upper level techniques as well as kills.
Just for kicks:
Here is an interesting story you may enjoy. A story which GM Chang wouldn't say much about except this. In 1968 when GM Chang opened his school, a man came and threw Poop on his door to welcome him to the neighborhood. Not nice right? Well, the story goes that this man(in perfect heatlth) mysteriously died from kidney failure right after that incident at the young age of 35. Grandmaster Chang goes on to say that is was "mysterious" and dismissed. I have students such as Mike Merchant and others who have read this letter signed by GM Chang.
Don't you enjoy old stories like these? They encourage us to study harder to know more and more about what we are teaching. To really understand what we are doing.
No, eritavalla tehtynä.
Ainakin minun osalla ajan puutteeseen.
